From Belief to Knowing: The Journey of Awakening & Becoming

Issue #2 Awakening Journal with Terry

Author: Terry Malatji

The word ‘believe’ starts losing meaning as I go through the knowing. When I know, I become and I become without a need to believe.

The above statement is truth unlocked. It is a a shift from faith to embodiment. Belief carries the idea of hoping something is true, but knowing is being.

Once you know, there’s no gap, no distance, you just experience oneness with what is. You don’t have to believe in the sun when you can feel its warmth on your skin. You don’t need to believe in what the sun can do when you know the properties carried by the sun.

This is the essence of true mastery, where healing, creation and transformation happen effortlessly. You are it.

The Power of “Dumela” – Knowing Before Belief

In exploring the difference between belief and knowing, I am reminded of the word “dumela”- a Sepedi word that we use to greet one another, which carries far more than the simple meaning of “hello” or “faith”.

In fact, the very act of greeting someone with “dumela” can be seen as an acknowledgment of the inner knowing we share, rather than an expression of belief.

The word “dumela” means ” agree” or ” acknowledge”, and its roots seem to suggest a deep resonance with the truth, an acknowledgment of what is already known, rather than something that must be believed. “Dumela” calls us to recognize rather than believe. It signifies a mutual recognition of truth that is already embedded within us, waiting to be acknowledged and acted upon.

Interestingly, the same word is used in the context of faith in some religious contexts, and yet its original use carries a higher vibration, one that’s more aligned with knowing. When we say “dumela” to each other, we’re not merely stating our belief. We are also acknowledging the unseen, the knowing that flows between us and our ancestors, our spirit and the universe.

This brings me to how we greet our ancestors. When we say: “dumelang Badimo ba ka” (Greetings to my ancestors), we are not only expressing a greeting but also an affirmation of alignment and agreement with the ancestral knowledge they carry. It is an acknowledgment that we stand in resonance with them, not because we must believe in them, but because we know them, we know their wisdom, and we carry it within us. There is no separation.

When I say, “Ke ya dumela” (I agree), I am calling upon my ancestors, not as a distant belief system, but as a living truth within me. I align myself with their wisdom, their guidance and the knowing they have always embodied. It is a deep recognition of the power of knowing. It is not just a belief in something that may or may not be true, but a powerful, unshakable truth that exists in the realm of direct experience.

Throughout history, humanity has been guided by belief. Belief has served as a bridge between the unknown and the known, offering comfort in times of uncertainty. It has provided structure, community and a sense of purpose.

However, belief was never meant to be the final destination. It was only a stepping stone toward something greater: knowing and becoming.

The Shift from Belief to Knowing

We are transitioning into an exciting era where the veil is becoming thinner. The separation between the physical and the metaphysical is dissolving, allowing deeper truths to emerge.

More people are feeling the pull toward something beyond belief. They are feeling a direct, personal experience of truth. The old constructs that relied on belief alone are losing their grip and making way for inner knowing.

This shift is happening because:

  • The energy of the universe is evolving and making hidden wisdom more accessible.
  • People are questioning long-held narratives and seeking personal truth.
  • The need for external validation is diminishing as inner awareness strengthens.
  • The element of separation between Self and Source, human and nature is losing power.

This movement from belief to knowing is not about rejecting the past but embracing the present with clarity. When you know, you no longer need to believe, you simply are. Knowing is a direct experience, an unshakable truth that no longer requires external confirmation.

The Consequences of Not Knowing and Becoming

For centuries, humanity has been kept in cycles of confusion and disempowerment. The inability to fully know and become has led to manipulation by systems that claim power over us. Those who should have led with true wisdom have, instead, perpetuated illusions of separation, using belief systems to control rather than to empower.

This spiritual disconnection has reached into our families, creating divisions and generational wounds that continue to manifest in cycles of pain.

The consequence of not knowing our true selves and not tapping into the infinite wisdom of our inner being, is that we lose the ability to fully manifest our spiritual gifts.

We begin to live in the shadows of our potential, unable to see beyond the limits imposed by fear and ignorance. We forget that we are not separate from Source. When we operate from the illusion of separation we develop a perpetual dependency on others for validation, for answers and for direction. The truth is, we are already gods, equipped with the power to create, transform and heal.

By not awakening to the truth of who we are, we also contribute to the collective chaos. We remain passive in a world that is yearning for a true, enlightened shift. This is why the journey of knowing and becoming is not just important, it is essential for our families, for humanity, for the collective healing of the world.

Awakening the Inner Truth

The journey to knowing begins within. Awakening requires the removal of energetic and mental blocks that have prevented us from seeing beyond belief. One of the most powerful ways to open up to inner truth is through creating a personal sanctuary. A sanctuary is spaces or activities that align with our deepest selves. These spaces act as portals, allowing wisdom to flow effortlessly. I speak more about a sanctuary in Chapter 9 of Principles & Tools of Creation.

Here are some ways to cultivate knowing:

Walking in Nature – Movement in open, natural spaces connects us to the wisdom of the Earth. It clears mental fog, opens energetic pathways and invites clarity. Many spiritual awakenings have begun with something as simple as a daily walk outdoors.

Journaling & Writing – Writing down thoughts, reflections and intuitive messages strengthens the ability to recognize patterns of truth. It is through expression that wisdom begins to take form.

Silence & Stillness – The ability to sit in silence, even for a few moments, allows us to tune into subtle energies and insights that are often drowned out by external noise. Silence carries the power to reveal wisdom in its purest form. Silence reveals authentic archives untouched by manipulation. Unlike knowledge, which can come through multiple channels, silence grants access to unfiltered truth. It is the goldmine of wisdom, offering direct communion with what has always been and waiting to be heard.

Rituals & Sacred Practices – Intentional acts such as lighting a candle, sitting by water, or meditating with breathwork can deepen connection to knowing. They create the energetic space for transformation.

Listening to the Inner Call – Sometimes, simple affirmations can open the door to knowing. At the beginning of my awakening journey, I  found  myself saying, “I receive with thanks knowledge, wisdom and understanding.” It was a call to wisdom, an opening to the flow of truth that would later unfold in my life. Never underestimate the power of inviting wisdom in.

A Personal Journey: The Unveiling of Truth

For many, the transition from belief to knowing happens organically, without external guidance. They will experience the inner pull toward truth. Drawing from my personal experience, the knowing journey began with a simple act of walking.

Through daily walks in nature, clarity began to emerge. This connection to the natural elements led to deeper reflection, which naturally led to writing and expressing what I was receiving.

The more I walked the more I got used to spending time in silence. I fell in love with stillness. I embraced the ability to sit in silence and simply receive. Without force or external pressure, the layers of belief began to dissolve, unveiling a deeper truth that was always there, waiting to be rediscovered.

The Resonance of Knowing: Connecting Beyond Words

There’s a profound truth that when you are aligned with your inner voice, it resonates with others who are on the same wavelength. Even when physically far apart, two individuals who are tapping into the same source of energy will naturally connect, whether through words, thoughts, or action, because their energies are connected to the same knowing.

This resonance goes beyond communication as we traditionally understand it. When you are in the flow of inner truth, the energy itself becomes the medium through which connection occurs. The words may be different, the voices may be separate, but the energy of the message is unmistakable. You feel it. You know it. It doesn’t require proof or validation from the external world. It simply is.

When we communicate from this place of knowing, we are no longer merely exchanging information. We are exchanging pure energy, and the resonance of that energy ripples outward, creating an unspoken bond that transcends space and time.

This is the power of truth. It cannot be contained. It flows freely between those who are ready to receive it, uniting us in a shared experience of awakening.

As you read these words, if you feel the pull, if you feel the energy align with something deep within you, know that it is not mere coincidence.

You are resonating with the truth that has always been within you, waiting to be awakened. This is the magic of knowing.

An Invitation to Experience Knowing

Close your eyes for a moment. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, let go of all external noise. Feel the quiet presence within you. Feel the space that has always been there, untouched by doubt or fear. This is where knowing resides. Not in words, not in analysis, but in the undeniable pull toward truth.

When you hear it, you just know.

There is a reason you are reading this. Perhaps something within you has already begun to stir. The knowing is already present, waiting to be seen, felt and lived. It is not something to be found outside of you. It is something to be remembered, something that has been whispering to you all along.

Are you ready to transition from believing to knowing? The journey begins the moment you decide to listen.
